The Federation of Fisheries Organizations Uganda (FFOU) developed the ABAVUBI Fisher Mobile App. The ABAVUBI app as an appropriate emerging remedy effectively assists this situation. The application allows the fisher folk to keep track, easily and securely collect, store, and analyze business and fisheries data. In addition to that, the app also gives the user access to weather forecasts, market information and navigation data. All these aspects are aimed at building stronger fish businesses, improve market access and strengthen the role of the fishing communities in co-management of the water resources.
The Abavubi App is a revolutionary digital health solution with a health module that facilitates seamless access to health services, supporting end-user enrollment in personalized health and wellness programs. Key features include:
– User-friendly interface for easy access to comprehensive health information and resources
– Secure and confidential data storage
The app provides comprehensive health data insights and aligns with national Health Management Information System (HMIS) indicators.
Empowering individuals and organizations through skill enhancement programs. Federation Of Fisheries Organizations Uganda (FFOU) recognizes the need to ensure adoption of best business practices in the sector through capacity building of Fisher folk. This is done to improve their business management and implementation. We offer Business Development Services trainings and advisory services which come in four main tracks of Entrepreneurship, Financial management, Fish handling and Responsible fisheries.
Expertise in fisheries legislation, policies, and human rights advocacy. It is the practice of FFOU, its partners and membership to advocate for good policies, and stand against any bad policies that may be imposed to the Fishery at all time. This is done in partnership with stakeholders in the sector to identify gaps and together propose for Action to Government and the Law enforcers.
Specialized in aquaculture management and sustainable development. With the challenges of over fishing, we train our members and the general public on modern practices of domestic fish farming.
FFOU plans to participate in the promotion and production of farmed fish to supplement on the capture fisheries production and this can be done best by planning Increased fish production and sustainable development of aquaculture and Aquaponics among fish farming communities in Uganda.
Additionally, Our aquaculture services include Training of Fish Cages, ensuring optimal aquatic health and productivity. Our experts provide hands-on training on cage design, installation, and management. Learn effective feeding, water quality management, and disease control techniques to maximize yields and minimize losses, promoting sustainable and profitable aquaculture practices.
Climate change action to protect the eco-system. FFOU encourages efficient and eco-friendly use of land resources, through organic farming, protection of fragile eco-systems such as wetlands, increasing the coverage of green spaces and encouraging sustainable building practices
The “Girl Child Support” program is dedicated to empowering marginalized young girls to reach their full potential through comprehensive education, health, and economic empowerment initiatives. This program provides scholarships, educational support, health and hygiene workshops, life skills training, and vocational training to girls aged 5-18 from disadvantaged communities. By addressing the unique challenges faced by girls, we aim to increase school enrollment and retention, improve health and well-being, and enhance economic opportunities. Through community advocacy and sensitization, we strive to create a supportive environment that fosters girls’ growth and development, helping them become confident, self-sufficient leaders of tomorrow.
Vocational training is a key initiative of the Federation of Fisheries Organizations Uganda (FFOU) to empower fisheries communities with practical skills for sustainable livelihoods. This program focuses on equipping community members, particularly youth and women, with technical skills tailored to the unique needs of fisheries, from advanced fishing techniques and sustainable fish farming practices to fish processing, storage, and market readiness. Through hands-on training and expert-led workshops, participants gain knowledge in areas like equipment maintenance, business management, and value addition, enabling them to maximize profits and improve food security.
FFOU’s HIV Prevention and Care program targets fisheries communities and surrounding fisherfolk, addressing the unique HIV/AIDS challenges they face. Our comprehensive approach includes:
- HIV testing and counseling
- Peer education and outreach
- Condom distribution and promotion
- STI treatment and management
- Care and support for PLHIV (People Living with HIV)
- Economic empowerment for vulnerable groups
- Protecting sex workers from acquiring HIV/AIDS and also supporting those with HIV/AIDS
By focusing on high-risk fishing communities, we aim to reduce HIV transmission, promote healthy behaviors, and improve the quality of life for those affected.
