FFOU MEMBERSHIPS
FFOU’s core membership structure looks at associations, cooperative unions, and other community-based organized groups within the sub-sector for fisher communities, local traders, aquaculture fish farmers, processors, and exporters, all based on mutual roles, interests, and expectations. Partnerships extend to various levels from Government instrumental bodies, research institutions, and management & development organizations to Donor/funder organizations. Affiliations are intended for sharing ideas, and experiences with related organizations outside our geographical area of operation or those within the geographical scope that support or contribute to the development of the fisheries sub-sector but are not directly involved in the fisheries activities.
Membership Rights
Members shall enjoy such rights as shall from time to time be prescribed by the Delegates’ conference, including
- The right to fully participate in the activities of the Federation;
- The right to use and access facilities provided by the Federation for members;
- The right to express themselves without undue interference or influence by other members;
- In the case of ordinary and Associate Members, the right to stand or vote for elective positions on the NEC (National Executive Committee), provided that they have complied with all appropriate requirements, including payment of all applicable membership and subscription fees;
- The right to withdraw their membership of the federation.
Membership Obligations
Members shall have Obligations to the Federation as shall from time to time be prescribed by the National Executive Committee, including the following:
- To pay all prescribed fees;
- To uphold and abide by this constitution and any other bye-laws or regulations made here under;
- To conduct themselves in a manner that is not prejudicial to the interests or contrary to the objectives for which the federation has been established;
- To express their opinions in a democratic, orderly, and fair manner, having respect for the rights of other members;
- To participate and contribute towards the activities and attainment of the Federation’s mission and objectives.
Membership Categories
The Federation membership is comprised of the following categories:
(a) Ordinary Membership: Ordinary membership shall be granted to organizations that meet the membership eligibility criteria.
(b) Associate Membership: Associate membership shall be granted to an organization involved and interested in the promotion of the objectives of the Federation.
(c) Honorary Membership: Honorary membership may, with the approval of the delegates conference, be granted to individuals and organizations that have identified with, contributed or rendered distinguished services to the promotion of the Federation’s objectives.
Membership Composition
The Federation Membership is composed of the subscribers to the memorandum and Article of Association, and any such other persons as the subscribers may from time-to-time admit as new members of the federation.
FFOU brings together all fisheries organizations, Associations and Businesses across various thematic and geographical areas in Uganda. Its membership is open to any non-profit/non-governmental organizations that comply with established eligibility requirements
Being a member of FFOU will allow an entity to further develop its potential and gain greater recognition across the fisheries sector. Membership allows member organizations to work collectively in enhancing access to all our services.
Membership Benefits
- Being a member part of a larger body professionally working together to influence policy-making processes that stimulate and spur the growth of fisheries businesses in Uganda
- Involvement and participation in various business fora, and sector working groups on policy and other concerns affecting the fisheries sector

- Participation in the decision-making process of FFOU by being represented on the Board of FFOU

- Enjoy a 10% discount rate on fee-based activities of FFOU e.g. training, seminars, exhibitions, adverting (business directory), and conferences.
- Enjoying a 50% discount as an Associate member who wants to advertise in the FFOU Business Directory
- Invitation to be part of the fisheries sector delegations that meet with foreign investors within the country and abroad.
- Use of the FFOU logo in advertisements to demonstrate the spirit of working together in the private sector development.
- Training and capacity building of you and your members in various needs that may arise including governance, financial literacy, and other business-related skills.
- Participation in FFOU networking meetings and member activities where you share ideas and experiences with other FFOU members.
- Participation in our member days where you can have one-on-one interaction with the FFOU management staff team to explore and seize the many opportunities available at FFOU
- Each member is visited by the FFOU team at least once a year. This is aimed at strengthening links and identifying organizational issues that may require advice from FFOU.
- Access to entrepreneurship skills and Business counseling services
Membership Involvement
FFOU offers opportunities for member involvement and participation in its programs and activities.
FFOU also recognizes other organizations that are not its members and will create opportunities for open exchanges with them.
FFOU programs & areas of intervention offer a wide range of activities in which all members are encouraged to participate.

Membership Subscription
- Honorary members shall not be required to pay membership or subscription fees. However, they may make a financial contribution to the Federation as and when they deem fit.
- Ordinary and Associate membership to the Federation shall be effective upon payment of a membership an annual subscription fee;
- The amount of fees to be paid for Ordinary and Associate membership shall be determined by the NEC from time to time the approval of the Delegates Conference.
